A motion was passed at the recent council meeting to have a half basketball court built at South Mollymook behind the Surf Club.
The move was initiated by the Milton Ulladulla Basketball Association and supported by the council, Rotary and the Community Forum.
More than $45000 was raised by the club, and Rotary have helped out with the last bit of funding.
The Shoalhaven Council have also allocated $5000 which will most likely go towards landscaping and bollards.
There have been some discussions about the material to be used for the surface of the court.
The rubbery surface which the association would like to use will not be able to withstand cars parking on it.
“Cr Kitchener raised the issue of the surf club not being able to use it for parking during big events,” said Cr Patricia White.
The surface that was agreed on was a hard plastic tile surface instead.
There will also be some form of security fence around the area.
“We hope to start construction in February,” said life member of Milton Ulladulla Basketball Association, Richard Nesbitt.
“We would like to run some twilight basketball competitions on it.
“It will just be a community facility for everyone to use,” he said.
The courts should only take four days to build and will be open for anyone to come and have a friendly game on.
