While many have been enjoying their summer at the beach or busy running tourism business or catering to the influx of visitors, they may have been blasé about a proposal that could have a massive impact on our region.
A public meeting was held at the St Georges Basin Country Club on Wednesday night and a meeting with representatives of the region’s community consultative bodies will be held on Thursday night, however there are no plans for a meeting in the Milton-Ulladulla region.
The proposal to create a mega-council from Minnamurra in the north to North Durras in the south will, without a doubt, have a huge impact on the southern region.
The Times is calling for a meeting to be held in Ulladulla in before the February 28 submission deadline so residents, ratepayers and business owners can be informed about the merger proposal.
People in the south need to know how they will be impacted by the merger and to be given an opportunity to ask questions of councillors and appointed delegate Greg Wright.
The Times spoke to Shoalhaven mayor Joanna Gash who has echoed calls for a meeting in Ulladulla.
“I have requested that a meeting be held in the south,” she said.
“I think it is important that a meeting is held in Ulladulla.
“I have made a request to the delegate and, if people want a meeting, they need to email him.
“It needs to be held as a soon as possible.”
People seeking a meeting in Ulladulla need to immediately email the delegate: Greg.Wright@dpc.nsw.gov.au
An Extraordinary Meeting of council will be held on Monday January 25 ahead of three public inquiries with Mr Wright on Wednesday February 3 – all in Kiama and Nowra.
