A tense morning of cricket with a well-deserved win was the story for our Under 14s on Sunday. Facing a strong North Nowra side, Day 1 was washed out and the game became a one-day fixture.
Captain Dale lost the toss and the Blues were asked to field. Angus Rutherford was his usual accurate self, sending down six miserly overs. Matt Wheeler took the first wicket with Ryan Geerlings taking an excellent ‘sky ball’ catch behind the stumps. Matt and Angus were well supported by Will Walton, Bailey Tooth, Casey Dorrell and super-sub Ben Ebzery filling in for Rocky.
North Nowra eventually finished with a tricky score of 109 that would not be an easy chase. Opening up Ryan and Nathan Simmons did exactly what was needed, putting together a solid opening stand of 14 that lasted for 6 overs. Dale came in after Nathan fell and with Ryan set about building what was arguably a match winning partnership.
Casey then joined Dale and they took the wind out of any sails North Nowra tried to erect. Casey was eventually out with the score at 74 and the end in sight. Bailey Tooth walked to the crease to join Dale and …. the game was over! The Blaster smoked 18 off 6 balls and together with Dale, blew away the opposition in quick time.
Dale finished with 46 off 36 balls, a magnificent captain’s knock that kept us on course the whole time. Next week, the Grand Final!
