The Anderson name is synonymous with the Milton Show and Lainie says she hopes to do her district proud as this year’s rural ambassador.
Lainie, 23, has a Bachelor of Psychology, Postgraduate Certificate in Criminology, is currently studying Masters of Health Service Management and works for Sydney Local District Health.
She was crowned at the show on Saturday by the 2015 Showgirl Meredith Woodcock.
“I am stoked, it’s been a wonderful day,” she said after the win.
“It felt amazing, it felt so good.
“I have been waiting to enter the Milton Showgirl for many years, so to finally enter and to be successful is just a dream come true.”
Lainie and other winners rode behind a bullock team in the grand parade and she said it was a fantastic experience.
“It was an amazing once in a lifetime event and I don’t think I’ll ever see it again, so I am actually overwhelmed to be a part of it.”
The daughter of Darren and Trish Anderson, Lainie has been attending the show since she was six months old and told the Times “I haven’t missed one yet”.
She is a keen pavilion entrant and enters flowers and cooking every year.
President Roy Johnston announced Lainie as the winner on the show stage to a rousing cheer from the audience.
“What a please it has been participating in the showgirl competition,” she told the crowd.
“I have met four young women who are absolutely great ambassadors for our community.”
Lainie thanked the show society president, committee and all the volunteers for the many hours of hard work they put into the event.
“I don’t think people realise just so much effort goes into organising a show of this calibre,” she said.
The runner-up showgirl was Abby Cameron, 19, who is studying a Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience at the University of Sydney.
The Teen Showgirl winner was Emily-Skye Hunt and the Junior Showgirl crown went to Claire Ridley.
This year’s Master Stockman was Cody Martin, with runner-up Cody Grady.
