The Ulladulla Men’s Shed have been fundraising for a couple of years to be able to build a larger workspace for their members and work has finally started.
The shed members are doing the majority of the work themselves and are in the first of four stages of construction.
A retaining wall is currently going up around the site and the building coordinator John Forbes said they had enough funding to complete this stage.
The next part of the project will involve excavation of the site to level it out for the floor slab, which will happen after the school holidays.
“Because we are a small crew, it takes time to complete,” said John Forbes.
“There is no concrete deadline.
“We want to try and fundraise enough to get through stage two.
“If we can do that, it will be more visible and easier to get funding,” he said.
Shed member Barrie Wilford walked from Circular Quay to Ulladulla Harbour last year and raised more than $6000 for the shed and the men also received a $30 000 from a community grant to go towards the new structure.
