The Commercial Hotel Milton has been broken into with the brazen crooks leaving a trail of open booze in their wake.
Close to midnight on July 17 CCTV cameras captured two young men circling the outside of the venue a number of times before breaking the glass of the back door to access the lock.
“Two blokes showed up on our CCTV footage at 11:47pm,” The Commercial Hotel Milton, licensee, Simon Taffs said.
“They walked around the outside of the pub a couple of times on the footage, looks like they are scoping it out.
“Then smashed the back window, got in and took 10-12 bottles of open liquor and legged it down Wason Street throwing bottles as they went.”
Mr Taffs explained their loot was limited, making off with only open bottles of alcohol.
“They didn’t get much, everything here is in safes,” he said.
“They took open bottles and spilt them on the way out.
“The nip pourers were still in so when they put the bottles in their backpacks it all came out.
“All of their clothes and everything would smell of alcohol.
“So if parents or anyone notice two young men whose clothes and backpacks stink of spirits, or a pile of nip pourers, tell them it is best they hand themselves in.”
With a live-in manager and hotel letting, Mr Taffs is surprised the thieves targeted the pub.
“Our manager who lives upstairs literally missed them by seconds,” he said.
“She heard two large bangs, glass shattering and then bottles clanking.
“Really, they are pretty stupid.
“There is always someone staying on the premises.”
Thanks to CCTV footage the pub has a number of solid leads on their identity.
“We have some really good leads,” Mr Taffs said.
“Everything was recorded on the CCTV and we’ve had police and forensic’s here this morning collecting fingerprints.
“They look pretty young so we want to give them a chance to come forward themselves.
“They were both in hoodies and were carrying backpacks. One was in shorts and the other wearing jeans. Both had sneakers on.
“They look to be between 16-22 years old. Slight build and not very tall, maybe around 170-175cm.
“It’s annoying more than anything.
“They weren’t even full bottles – morons.”
