The shark alarm was raised at South Mollymook beach this afternoon.
A pod of dolphins sounded the shark alarm at South Mollymook Beach at approximately 4:30pm, Tuesday, December 27.
Mollymook Surf Life Saving Club director of lifesaving Adam Woodward said a member of the public raised the false alarm, suspecting a shark.
“Close to 90-100 people were evacuated for up to 15 minutes at South Mollymook Beach as we investigated the sighting,” he said.
“The inflatable rescue boat did a number of laps of the area, and instead of a shark they found a pod of dolphins.”
All patrolled beaches will be open as normal tomorrow, Wednesday December 28.
