In May, 2016 senior doctor Brett Thomson walked out on Milton-Ulladulla Hospital, after fighting for the retention of services and expansion of the hospital for 17 long years.
Dr Thomson said at the time he had run out of energy and can’t keep up the fight on behalf of the community.
He believed plans were in the pipeline to further cut-back maternity and other vital services at the facility.
Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) announced in August, 2016 that maternity services will cease at Milton-Ulladulla Hospital.
“We have worked and worked with the current administration to try and to get solutions,” Dr Thomson said in May.
“We’re not viewed as safe operators, we’re not viewed as people who are worthy of operating a safe service.
“I have no more energy left in me to fight what I think its futile battle.”
