After a Christmas cracker on the weather front, parts of the South Coast are set to be hit by a heatwave to round out 2016.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe heatwave alert for the Illawarra and South Coast from Wednesday to Friday, with temperatures expected to be up to about 14 degrees above the December average.
Nowra, Kiama and Wollongong are set to swelter, while at Ulladulla and on the Far South Coast, visitors and locals will enjoy some slightly cooler temperatures.
A heatwave, as defined by the bureau, is three or more days of unusually-high maximum and minimum temperatures.
High humidity is tipped to make things even more uncomfortable for the rest of the week.
The hot nights are also expected to continue.
