Council’s general manager Russ Pigg has recommended more lenience for developers in the Development Committee meeting minutes.
The matter will be discussed at the development committee meeting on Tuesday, and potentially finalised at council’s general meeting later in the month.
Presently, the height restriction has been set at 7.5m.
Council’s proposal suggests a part 11m restriction, and part 14m restriction.
The land in question involves properties on St Vincent Street, Parson Street, Burrill Street South, Jubilee Avenue, Deering Street and the Princes Highway, Ulladulla.
This has been up for debate since a developer applied to construct an 11m office building in the southern CBD in March.
Mr Pigg argued that without changes to height restrictions, “it will be difficult to stimulate and facilitate development consistent with a CBD location.”
Council consulted with the community on the matter in July, and received seven submissions on the matter.
Three were in support of an increase in height, two specifying a height of 17m.
Three did not support any increase in height.
One considered a height increase appropriate only where existing amenity and character is maintained and quality design controls are provided.
