Grant Schultz is encouraging more people to sign the petition and has dropped copies at several shops between Sussex Inlet and Bawley Point.
It is hoped 10,000 people will sign the petition, put forward by South Coast MP Shelley Hancock, for it be tabled in parliament for discussion in early 2018.
The petition urges the state government to purchase the former Shoalhaven Anglican School site on Croobyar Road, Milton to home a second high school.
"We are about half way,” Mr Schultz said.
“I think we are on track. I expect there to be an influx in signatures during the Christmas period.
“Anyone who is 18 and resides in NSW can validly sign this.”
Mr Schultz said he was more than happy to pick up completed forms and replace them with new petitions to help those during the busy trading period.
“Everyone has been really wonderful and very enthusiastic,” he said.
“Obviously with a low population around 20,000, we need quite a bit of effort to get every second person to sign.
“It is not a small task but I really appreciate the community getting behind this. It is a great cause and a bit of a no-brainer.
“It is a lot of signatures but we will get there. it is a great com asset that we can't afford to lose.”
Mr Schultz urged anyone wanting to have a petition in their shop or help with collecting completed sheets, to phone him on 0416 270 216.
