Fulton, 16, progressed all the way to round three, where she was eliminated by Australia’s Zahli Kelly and Hawaii’s Zoe McDougall in heat three.
But that still left her in the top 12 women her age in the world – an accomplishment that hasn’t been lost on her.
“I was really happy with my performance in round one,” Fulton said.
“I believe I surfed really well and had big turns.
“In my round three heat, I struggled catching the right wave like a larger cleaner one, that would allow me to pull of a decent combo – that’s why my scores were lower.
“But I believe that I surfed the waves that I did catch quite well.
“Overall, I believe I did the best I could and have learnt a few things from my time spent in Kiama.”
The positives that I have taken away from the world junior championship is that I am most capable of being a world champion in the future.

Fulton is now aiming to build on her strong showing at Kiama.
“The positives that I have taken away from the world junior championship is that I am most capable of being a world champion in the future,” she said.
“I’ve also come away feeling inspired to try harder and train harder.
“The high performance centre worked out a strengthening routine for my individual needs that I can work on before my next competitions.”
Fulton is next headed to the Ron Jon Florida Pro, Sebastian Inlet, Florida for a women's QS 6,000, which will run from January 18-24.
She will then concentrate on performing on the WSL Qualifying Series, intending to compete in all seven QS 6,000s, two QS 3,000s, three QS 1,000s and four Australian pro junior events in 2018.
