South Coast MP Shelley Hancock said the meeting, called because of the road carnage over the Christmas holiday period, was “extraordinary”.

“Everyone came together supporting each other. The paramedics, SES, RFS, Marine Rescue, the driver education people from Ulladulla High School and Police. There were 100 people,” she said. 

“Their focus was on the Princes Highway and they all said the federal government needs to do something about the Princes Highway.

“They were of the opinion that it is a disgrace the federal government has done nothing about the highway.”

Mrs Hancock said she spoke to the police, not just about the road facilities over summer, but all the deaths on the road between Milton and Nowra. 

“These accidents deeply affect the people who have to attend. It is a cumulative effect,” she said.

“This is the fatigue zone, they are really pessimistic about the future. 

“It would have been really good for the federal member [Ann Sudmalis] to have been at the meeting, to hear their concerns."
