Today we launched the FIX IT NOW campaign to get the Princes Highway south of Jervis Bay Road upgraded. Involving Fairfax’s South Coast papers from Wollongong to the Victorian border, our aim is to encourage the state and federal governments to put aside their differences, strike a fair funding deal, commit to and commence a comprehensive safety upgrade on the highway on which we all rely.

The need for urgent action was spelled out last Sunday at a gathering of local emergency service workers in Mollymook. The agencies, which got together to debrief on the dreadful road carnage over the holiday period, had one unified message: the highway needs to be upgraded if more frequent tragedies are to be prevented.
In coming weeks, we will call on you, our readers, to tell your stories about the highway. We want to know which bends, bridges and intersections you want to see improved. We also want to enlist your help in getting our message heard in Canberra and Sydney, but more of that later.
This week saw attention drawn to multiple sclerosis, with local sufferer Dean Howcroft raising funds to get himself to Panama for stem cell therapy to slow to disease. We wish him and his family the very best in this endeavour.
Wine aficionados learned this week the Shoalhaven Wine Wine Festival had been cancelled. We understand the event proved so popular it outgrew itself. Never mind, though, local wineries will still be open on the June long weekend.
