The annual Horizon Credit Union Blessing of the Fleet Ball saw the princesses dance with their partners before one was crowned the winner.
Grace Sullivan, partnered with Jake Wills, was crowned the 2018 princess.
The Ulladulla High School student said she was “shocked” when her name was read out.
“I wasn’t expecting it. It was really amazing to be able to get crowned,” Grace said.
“It was an amazing night and I had so much fun. Every girl should do it. I didn’t go in to win it, I went in it to enjoy it.”
Grace said she entered for the experience and to be a part of the long-standing community tradition.
“I thought it would be a good experience and it is always a good event in the community,” she said.
“I thought it would be nice to be able to do it and experience it myself. I think it is great for girls my age to be able to participate in something like this.”
Having enjoyed the interview process in the weeks leading up to the ball, Grace said she was asked about her community involvement and her sporting achievements.
“I am going to Hong Kong in two weeks to represent the Illawarra in rugby 7s team,” she said.
“I am also in the ACT Brumbies U17s squad. I play bulldogs league tag and I also play rugby with the Bowral Blacks.
“I train about four times a week and play each Saturday and Sunday.”
Grace will lead the Blessing of the Fleet parade on Easter Sunday, with her UP themed float. Just days after the parade, she will fly to Hong Kong to play football.
First runner up was given to Alana Doyle, whose partner was Jeirie Abbott, while Maddison Condie, partnered by Alexzander Manning, was crowned second runner up.
