An Ulladulla cafe launched an initiative in July 2017 to encourage customers to bring reusable coffee cups in store.
Native Cafe encouraged coffee drinkers to bring their own cup by offering a 50c discount, which they then donated to Take 3 for the Sea. Since July, they have donated more than $2000 to the cause.
“We are excited to see more and more people using their reusable cups instead of takeaways. Take 3 for the sea do such great work for the environment and we are proud to be able to support them,” Cafe owners Erin and Ben Blair said.
“We’re hoping locals continue to get behind the reusable cups and perhaps one day Ulladulla and surrounds will be waste free.”
Take 3 for the Sea South Coast guardian Monica Mudge said the funds would be used for educational programs and beach cleans.
“I feel immensely proud of Native Cafe and our community for embracing the reusable cup and really taking ownership to doing something to help a really big problem,” she said.
“I feel really hopeful that, I get teary when I think about it, we can reverse a massive issue that is affecting our oceans, and that will ultimately affect our lively hood.
“Communities and individuals making small changes goes to show the power we have to make a change.
“When we show such support for campaigns like this, it sends a clear message to big corporations and governments; the people that need to make change but haven’t.”
