Our FIX IT NOW campaign was heard in all the right places. The NRMA issued a statement backing our call for Princes Highway safety upgrades. And I briefed the Prime Minister on the campaign when he visited Nowra on Thursday.
With winter approaching, we were disturbed to see Shoalhaven Hospital, upon which many local residents have to rely, cancelling 50 elective surgeries in the past fortnight because of a huge influx of patients.
But we were heartened to see the great generosity shown at the fundraiser for Dean Howcroft, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and is seeking treatment overseas – proof once again that this community looks after its own. Well done.
A shout-out is also in order for the Bawley Point couple who rescued three black swan cygnets who became separated from their mother in the surf. Small gestures like these really warm the heart.
Changes are afoot at Woolworths, which is poised to do away with single-use plastic bags. The changeover, due to take place in June, will please many locals who want to keep our oceans clean.
Finally, a reminder the speed limit on Matron Porter Drive will be reduced from May 17.
Catch you next week.
