Shoalhaven City Council has undertaken surveys of Lake Conjola entrance since its closure in April to determine the height of the bar in relation to the average sea level.

Daily water samples are also taken to monitor public safety for swimming. 

Council’s entrance management policy outlines the lake will be opened when water levels exceed 1-metre Australian Height Datum, measured by a gauge at the Lake Conjola Caravan Park.

Whether or not the lake is artificially opened will be determined in line with the policy.

“Council managers the lake in accordance with the adopted entrance management policy for Lake Conjolawhich was adopted by Council and the State Government in 2013, following extensive community consultation,” a council spokeswoman said. 

“Shoalhaven City Council is undertaking regular survey of the lake entrance level to determine the heights of the bar in relation to mean sea level, we also undertake regular water quality monitoring to access public safety for swimming. We also have gauges in the lake that measure the lake level which are constantly monitored on a daily basis.”
