The Ulladulla team of Koby Jackson, Beau Buckpitt, Keira Buckpitt, Jack Patterson and Luke O'Connell, with Vern Jackson and Mick Buckpitt as managers, made light work of the competition, which included seven other South Coast boardrider clubs.
In the final, Ulladulla’s score of 42.60 was just enough to edge out their closest competitors, Scarborough Boardriders Club - who finished with a score of 41.17.
“I thought the whole team surfed really well as whole,” Beau Buckpitt said.
“In particular, I thought Jack Patterson was a standout – he competed exceptionally, while handling the conditions and time pressures as well as he could.
“Jack and our other two younger groms Keira [Buckpitt] and Koby [Jackson] proved to be the difference in my opinion.”
Coming in third was Southbridge Boardriders (Warilla-Shellharbour), who scored 39.23, and Sandon Point Boardriders, with 29.57.
“Overall, this win is a great achievement for the junior members, especially coming so far to compete,” Beau Buckpitt said.
“I knew we had a really good team but the conditions were small and tricky, so that was our only obstacle but all of us managed to work the conditions and get decent scores.
“We all worked really well together as a team especially in the final.”
The next Surfrider Gromfest will be held in September.
