Right at the end of the busy racing season Mollymook Outrigger Canoe Club sent two crews to compete. After an intense training program they fielded a master men’s and master women’s team.
The conditions on the day were perfect with a light southerly breeze and a small swell rolling in under clear blue skies.
The ladies crew lined up with 21 others from some of the top clubs in Australia and absolutely smashed themselves to complete the 18km course in 1 hour 54 minutes. While this placed them towards the rear of the field in this company, it was a brilliant effort that they can be proud of.
Later in the afternoon the men’s crew took off with 30 other canoes on a 22km journey. After settling in to a pace they had trained to, they started picking off teams that had gone out hard at the start. After 1 hour and 44 minutes of solid team effort, the team were over the moon to take out third place in their age group.
It was an incredible end to the competition season for the Mollymook Outriggers where the little club took it right up to some of the strongest clubs in the country.
