The semi-final games of the Dave Tucker minor singles were loaded with some excellent bowls despite some strong westerly gusts which added another dimension at times. The match between Col Milligan & Mark Sommerville was an enthralling challenge & towards the end the newer bowler looked to be a "cert". However Col had other ideas & fought back from about eight or nine down to 30 all & then nabbed that elusive winning shot. The other match, that between Paul Barnes & Andrew Jarvis was mostly very close with Andy breathing down Paul's neck. However Paul, a natural/talented bowler, pulled off a four towards the end which pretty much sealed the game. Final score 31/19. Well done, all played quality bowls (plus a wee dab of that essential luck required to win!) Thanks are extended to the markers & the umpire, Dave Clark.
SOCIAL: Wednesday Triples welcomed Jeff Wall (Thirroul), Nick King & long time friend & visitor from Stawell Vic. Robert Lackman. Ron Wall tried out his newly organised computerised, team names drawn, nicely printed score cards on the mob, nice work! However your scribe is sad to report that it really didn't improve his bowls on the day. Maybe next week? Winners of the lucky rink were Mark, Dave Clark & Nick, playing against the Walls & Peter Furnell. And they used a standard scorecard!
Friday's Open Pairs attracted only 28 bowlers, a surprisingly small roll-up considering the $1120 jackpot! Winners of the $120 prize for the five random ends with 11 points were Paul Barnes & Kerry Jones & visitors Johno & Snowy Venn claimed the $15 KENO voucher. The jackpot was not won, next Friday it will be $1200!
About 20 "Scroungers" turned out at 11am last Saturday for the battle. It is an interesting variation on the bowls theme & fun to play. NOTE: it is open to all, ladies & visitors as well as the Saturday usuals. $20 prize for the best outcome went to Gary McGuire, $10 money back for second to Croc & best of the losers playoff, $10 to Lee Dent.

Two semi-finals of the club minor pairs were played this week with Peter Sneddon and Jock Robertson being the first of the teams into the final with a good win over the pair of Rob Cattley & Col Jamieson on Saturday afternoon. Peter & Jock played very consistent bowls from the outset and seemed to have all the answers to whatever the other pair put to them, and so ran out deserved winners. The other semi on Sunday saw Kevin Baxter & John Power take a very good lead from the start over the pairing of Clayton King and Bill Bellamy and never looked back. They continued their good form throughout the game and ran out convincing winners, and so the final will be played next Sunday at 12.30 between Peter/Jock and Kevin/John. Also played this week was the President Reserve Pairs, where we saw four teams from our club get up early on Sunday morning and travel to Berry to have a go at progressing further down the line, and I am pleased to report that the pair of Mick Sawicki and Ron Amos did very well and will be playing in the semi-finals next Sunday morning. Well done lads. The Special General Meeting is on this Saturday so make sure you know exactly what the resolutions mean and vote wisely. Saturday’s different format seems to have struck a very good response from the members and hopefully will continue into the future, especially if the ladies continue to perform against some very decent opposition as happened last Saturday. The Winter Carnival is coming up very quickly with a few vacancies still available on most days, so if you would like to participate in a very enjoyable atmosphere, get your names in.

Monday 25 June. We had fun mixed day with the idea of raising some extra funds for our Number 3 Pennant ladies to travel up to the Central Coast to compete in the State Pennant Playoff in August. Thank You to all those who donated Raffle Prizes, goods for the Trading Table and those who cooked up a storm supplying us with scrumptious morning tea; not forgetting the support from the men’s club. We raised close to $800.
Tuesday 26 June. Today we saw the Semi Finals of the Major Consistency being played. Helen Bamford vs Sandra Crimmins and Jo Cattley vs Maureen Fletcher. Umpire for the day was Cheryl Davies and Controlling Body was Margaret Davidson. Both games gave the small crowd a great exhibition of draw bowling. Sandra managed to come away with a win after strong come back from Helen who just made her run a little too late. Next door Maureen and Jo were battling bowl for bowl, neither seem to be able to pull away. Jo came away with the win by the closest margin possible. This set up the Final for 2018 Sandra Crimmins (aiming for 3 Consistency Championships in a row) versus Jo Cattley on Thursday.
Thursday June 27. Wet weather greeted the ladies and Controlling Body Di Rupp decided to call play off opting for the Final to be played on Sunday, July 1, 12.30pm .Controlling body for the day to be Robyn Taylor and Umpire Cherilyn Brace.
Sunday July 1 was a perfect winter’s day. Sunshine and light breeze giving a great setting for the Major Consistency Final. Sandra Crimmins won the toss and really never looked back. Jo Cattley had the lead after 2 ends showed some flare but not consistently enough (thus the name of the game). Sandra took the lead in the 4th end 21/19 and by the 14th end Sandra had attained 90 shots up with Jo lagging back on 50. Sandra came away with a convincing win 155/105 after 26 ends of fantastic controlled draw bowling . Sandra Crimmins Major Consistency Champion for 2018.

On Tuesday 19th June the weather conditions were less than ideal for the playing of the Final of the Club Triples Championship but all players coped quite well until the eventual abandonment of play for the day. At that stage Kay Pope's team held a nice lead over the team skipped by Trish Moy. Due to various other commitments the game was not resumed until Saturday, 23rd June, when the team of Jeanette Sargent, Kerrie Jarvis and Trish Moy staged a complete turnaround and became the Triples Champions for 2018 by 2 shots over Ann Brandley, Lyn Newton (sub. for D.Page) and Kay Pope. Congratulations to all Players. An alteration to programme will now see the President's Pairs played on Thursday, 12th July. The Minor Singles entries close on 10th July, with play to start on 17th..Our AGM will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, 16th July, and will be followed by a Trading Table and The Biggest Morning Tea.
