Karen June Denford, 59, pleaded guilty at Milton Local Court on May 31 to causing bodily harm while driving and driving under influence of alcohol.
At Milton Local Court on Thursday, July 12, Denford was sentenced to 160 hours of community service and disqualified from driving for 18 months, backdated to August 9, 2017.
Papers tendered to the court stated Denford was driving on Bangalow Street, Narrawallee, between 7.39pm and 7.50pm on August 9 when she crossed to the wrong side of the road and hit a pedestrian.
The victim bounced off the bonnet landing on grass outside a house.
The victim was flown to St George Hospital, Sydney, with a broken hip and abrasions to his head.
The offender fled the scene and was later found by Police at her home. Court papers said she told police she was “drinking wine”.
At a later voluntary interview Denford said she had drunk three glasses of wine between 11.40am and 2pm.
During Denford’s sentencing Magistrate Gabriel Fleming said she had an exemplary driving record since 1976 but the issue was “alcohol, alcohol, too much alcohol”.
“I accept you’re remorseful,” Magistrate Fleming said.
