Jacob Grahem Cachia, 27, who now lives in Wollongong, pleaded guilty to destroying or damaging property worth less than $2000 when he first appeared in Milton Local Court on July 12.
Magistrate Gabriel Fleming told Milton court Cachia described the incident as “drunken stupidity” when he ripped the screen door off the newsagency on Wason Street in June.
Cachia’s defence counsel said he voluntarily presented himself to police and that he disclosed he had no intentions of entering the premises.
On July 12, Magistrate Fleming condemned the man’s actions before she refused his bail.
Magistrate Fleming said he admitted to “ripping off” a door after he drank to excess at a local pub and club.
“It’s the sixth time you’ll be convicted for damaging or destroying someone else’s property,” she said.
“You are a young man who’s just marching towards a correctional centre.”
Cachia was bailed in Nowra Local Court on July 13 after he spent the previous night in custody.
He will next appear at Nowra Local Court on July 27.
