The Turner Brown Band will return to Milton Theatre on Saturday, August 4 as part of their 2018 July/August Australian tour.
The Turner Brown Band is a joint Australia/USA musical collaboration between the Backsliders’ guitarist and Ohio-based Nikki D Brown, whose guitar and vocals channel the sacred steel style of southern American music.
Turner said he was rapt to return to Milton Theatre because he was blown away by the positive vibe in the foyer after last year’s show.
“We were in the foyer afterwards and there was just an overwhelming feeling of everybody leaving with a positive feel,” Turner said.
“People reporting that they never felt so good coming away from a concert.
Nikki’s sisters Gloria Brown and Tamika Webb will join the band on stage and both share the same deep musical heritage and love of gospel music.
Turner said attendees can expect a loud show with a gospel core to it.
“There’s something special about this kind of music. When blues combines with Nikki’s gospel and stage presence it really does have a uplifting effect,” he said.
“What people are going to get is it’s pretty loud and raucous blues-based music, but everything has kind of got this gospel core to it.
“You kind of feel like you’re getting to spend some time in a southern African American Church for an evening.”
The Turner Brown Band have released two albums – Sneak Attack and Sliding Steel – since collaborating in 2015.
“I went over in 2015, got into a studio and the musical connection was absolutely immediate,” Turner said.
“We did a mini-album of recorded material and I started booking tours of Australia. Last year we did three tours in Australia and during one of the tours we recorded a full album and released it in the same year.”
