Until this week the drought seemed a little remote, a hardship being suffered on the other side of the escarpment. It hit home this week when local dairy producer Robert Miller revealed the hardships he was facing, made worse by the ongoing supermarket milk war and the paltry farm gate prices.

Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis has written to the big four supermarket chains, asking they lift milk prices and donate the extra money to help dairy farmers.
Also designed to help farmers relying on feed being trucked is a temporary lifting of the restrictions on B-double trucks on the Princes Highway. For the rest of us, this means taking extra care when driving on the highway.
