Milton Public School kids, some of which have been directly affected by the fire, spent an hour at the centre thanking Rural Fire Service volunteers, Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters, NSW Ambulance officers and police officers.
Deputy Principal of the school, Jason Barby, said
“We got together as a school community and came up with this idea. We asked for donations and contributions from the community in a very quick call out and we are here today to deliver about 800 parcels,” he said.
“There is food, and some other gifts for the emergency services and maybe families who are out of their homes or need some basic materials to help them.”
Mr Barby said a number of students had been away because of the fires.
“We have lost a few student as a result of the fires, but also a few of out staff have properties that have been affected,” he said.
“We are doing class activities to raise awareness about the fires. There is a lot of community spirit at Milton Public School.”
Speaking to emergency services on Friday morning, the students were appreciative of their hard work.
“We love to see this as teachers, and we are very proud to live in this community,” Mr Barby said.
