Mayana Rural Fire Service had a busy morning on Wednesday, before being tasked to the emergency situation at the Kingiman fireground.

Captain Alex Frew said they recieved there first call at 4.30am Wednesday to Porters Creek Dam road.
“We blacked that fire out, and were heading back to the station,” he said.
“On our way back, we got a call to a truck rollover on the Princes Highway. On the way there we were stood down.
“We went back to the station and then the pager went off again to come to Kingiman.
“We didn’t get there though; we got as far as Porters Creek Dam and there was a large smoke column so we were sent back there.”
The crew arrived on the Kingiman fireground at about 9.30am.
“We were are the command centre for a short time and were tasked straight out to do property protection,” Mr Frew said.
“It was very windy, and the fires were coming on both sides. It was impacting houses, and where we were it burnt around the houses.”
