I am from Dolphin Point and was very happy when the Aboriginal Land Council acquired a piece of land for cultural reasons thinking the bushland would be preserved for future generations. However, soon after it was acquired the land council deemed it not culturally significant and sold it to developers. From this point the state government was only too happy to green-light the tearing down of trees and bushland to make way for a huge amount of housing that will change this quiet village forever.
The Aboriginal Land Council has acquired land at Wairo Beach, Canberra Crescent, Kings Point, Narrawallee, Lake Conjola, to name a few, all of which has been deemed culturally not significant once acquired. Developers move in and get the green light from the state government. My concern is not that the Aboriginal Land Council received permission to acquire this land but the fact they can then turn around and say that it is not culturally relevant and suddenly it is on the market for developers to exploit.
As a community need answers and I urge all of you to attend a meeting on September 3 at the Civic Centre at 6pm to further discuss developments and have your voice heard. The future of the South Coast of our beautiful way of life depends on you being there.

Hypocrisy writ large
On Friday the nation watched as a weak, ineffectual Prime Minister was replaced with a man who has a massive integrity and credibility problem. All you really need to know about Scott Morrison was revealed in his first sentence to the nation as PM. “We’re on your side, that’s what matters. We’re on your side.” This populist statement comes from the same man who told the Australian public for two years as treasurer there was no need for a Royal Commission into the banking industry. Since the disgraceful revelations of the Royal Commission became public, this arrogant hypocrite has remained silent as well he might. No apology, nothing.
A self-confessed Christian, Morrison also showed a disregard for human rights, and displayed a lack of empathy and concern for asylum seekers when he was Minister for Immigration. At that time, his blatant hypocrisy was as plain for all to see as it is now.
Our new Prime Minister Scott Morrison. This is the best the Liberal party can come up with. What a shameful situation. No matter what side of politics you are on, the ideal of a PM who we can all look up to with respect seems further and further away. Bring on the next election.

Bring on the election
The ructions of Friday’s Liberal Party mess brings to mind the declarations of Malcolm Turnbull prior to his foray into politics. He was for a republic and a believer in climate change and renewable energy but all of these tenets seemed to melt away as he found increasing power in politics. To some this would appear to be hypocrisy, however to others it’s just the influence of the extreme right wing of the Liberal Party, now supported by the redneck yobbos of Sky TV and radio. We now have as a Prime Minister a man who threw coal onto the parliamentary table and who voted against the Royal Commission into the banking industry. As for Peter Dutton, if he had been successful I would have expected a mass migration to New Zealand. Can’t wait for a federal election.
