The Milton-Ulladulla District Mountain Bikers Club has announced a track in the Woodburn State Forest will be complete by March.
The district’s lone mountain bike club secured a $192,493 grant from the NSW Government’s infrastructure grants program.
In May, with assistance from South Coast MP Shelley Hancock, the club applied for funding assistance under the club grants category three fund, club vice-president Matthew Forbes said.

“The money is offered to community groups to fund new and maintain existing community infrastructure,” Mr Forbes said.
“It’s pretty awesome, we were all in shock for a week [when they were notified].”
Mr Forbes said the club anticipated opening a track in March, 2019.
It had begun obtaining quotes from qualified trail builders to construct trails on the Forestry Corporation of NSW land in the Woodburn State Forest.
Last year the Forestry Corporation gave the club a green light to build a six-kilometre track on nine hectares of land off Wheelbarrow Road.
“Trails will include areas for all ages and levels of experience,” he said.
The club anticipates it will host regular events including race days, mentoring sessions and family days.
“We would like to thank Shelley Hancock, State Forestry Corp, Milton Ulladulla Business Chamber, Milton Ulladulla Apex, Donna Payne and the Milton Ulladulla ExServos for their assistance in our submission,” Mr Forbes said.
Forestry Corporation of NSW partnerships leader Brendan Grimson was pleased the club secured funding to build a track in the Woodburn State Forest
“It’s a big boost for mountain biking in the region,” Mr Grimson said.
“We’re big supporters of people visiting the forest.”
Mrs Hancock said the project would offer the opportunity to introduce the sport to new riders.
“The new trail network will support local mountain bikers and attracting competitors and visitors from outside the Shoalhaven region,” Mrs Hancock said.
“It will cater for riders of all skill levels, from easy beginner tracks, through to facilities that allow more advanced riders to develop their skills.
“It is great to be able to offer high-quality, modern sport and recreation facilities to the communities of the Southern Shoalhaven.
“Once complete the purpose-built, custom designed mountain biking track will serve as the perfect weekend activity for local families or the perfect challenge for visiting mountain bikers.
“I congratulate the Milton Ulladulla District Mountain Bikers who have been working towards promoting and developing mountain biking in the area since 2008.”
