Hazel Esther Bridget Robinson, who turns 100 on Wednesday, September 26, was joined by 70 family and friends to celebrate her centenary milestone at the Mollymook Golf Club.
Attendees from the USA, Canada, Japan and New Zealand joined friends and relatives from the Sunshine Coast, Hobart, Sydney, the Illawarra and the Milton-Ulladulla region. Her son Geoff Robinson lives in Florida and flew in on the morning of September 23 as an additional surprise to the celebrations.
Hazel Robinson, nee McKeig, was born on Jeir Station in Yass in 1918 and has lived in Ulladulla for almost 70 years.
She married Jack Robinson (deceased) in 1939 and they had five children – Marlene Calleja, Judith Campisi (deceased), Geoffrey Robinson, Dr Kerry Robinson and Paul Robinson.
Residents may remember the Harbour View Cafe of which Hazel and Jack operated from 1960 to 1972. It sat in the site next door to the current Ulladulla Post Office.
Hazel has also enjoyed playing lawn bowls at the Milton-Ulladulla Bowling Club over the years.
Family and friends were curious about, and admired, Hazel’s letters of congratulation from Queen Elizabeth II; Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove and wife Lynne; Prime Minister Scott Morrison, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis and South Coast MP Shelley Hancock.
Di Campisi ensured the party will continue on Wednesday when her grandmother celebrates her actual birthday, with friends and family
