Directed by Diana Falloon, the show follows the story of ladies in a Women’s Institute in Yorkshire, who bare more than just their souls, to raise funds for charity
“We rehearse for two hours at a time. We have all up 12 actors on stage. We have six women and four men, but we also have the team behind the stage,” Mrs Falloon said.
“It is coming together nicely.”
Rehearsals would “ramp up” in October, when Mrs Falloon will concentrate on the cast’s energy and connection with the audience.
The play started coming together in June and will take to the stage on November 2, 3 and 4, and 9, 10 and 11.
“I am a collaborative director. I have done a lot of shows,” Mrs Falloon said.
“At the beginning, you try and get some report between the actors, and I let them do their own things for the first few rehearsals before I bring order into it.
“This is show number 13 for me with the Follies. I love it.”
Calendar Girls has been a show Mrs Falloon has wanted to do “for some time”.
Based on a true story, the play tells the story of a group of women.
“One of the women’s husbands dies, and do they decide they will raise money for the hospital,” Mrs Falloon said.
“So, they make a calendar with some of the women posing nude.
“We will play that out on stage.”
Although some people are covered with big sheets of music, others have nothing but a couple of buns covering them in the Follies production.
“The first act has a lot of humour, but the second act has a lot of emotions,” Mrs Falloon said.
“Come and see it, it is a great show.”
Tickets to the show are $28, or $25 or pensioners, or those who book in groups of 10. To get tickets, visit Milton Follies website www.miltonfollies.org or drop into AKWA Surf, Milton.
