There were reduced numbers, given the school holidays, however some good performances prevailed with valuable points being collected in what is now the back end of the season.
Both the 10km series and the 5.5km series contested the 5.5km single loop course, but in the reverse direction. This is achieved by turning left into Clyde St at the 500m mark and doing the loop in the clockwise direction. It’s favoured by some, as they believe it smooths out the altitude gain over a longer section, rather than the abrupt climbs up Forest and Oxley in the conventional direction.
In the 10km series, the handicapper got it mostly right, with the main exception being eventual winner, Craig Hancock. 'Poppy' Craig cleared out to win by a healthy margin, shaving some 3 minutes from his handicap time. Craig was also the fastest on course with a fine 26:09 net time over the 5.5km distance. Congratulations are in order to Craig and his family, with the arrival of his beautiful granddaughter during the week. Second across the line was Jodie Toghill who ran a well judged 27:48. Third place went to Gay Shearman who ran at a speedy 4:55 per km pace for a net time of 27:05.
In the 5.5km series, defending champion Jack Robertson picked up maximum points and is once again threatening the series lead.
Cheryl Garin was the happy recipient of the lucky door prize, before the crew moved on to Tallwood for a well earned coffee and a chat.
