Shoalhaven City Council will table the report and determine a solution to return the skate park to a high standard at its strategy and assets meeting on Tuesday at council’s chambers.
The report highlights the urgent need for repairs or replacement of the region’s only skate park, with next closest being Manyana and Durras.
Mayor Amanda Findley said she wanted to see Ulladulla Skate Park get back the title of a highly-rated facility – a rating it had when built 20 years ago.
“My preferred position is to use the money that we budgeted earlier in the year to come back and do some planning, get the drawings done and the plannings done to make a completely new park that’s a regional standard,” Cr Findley said.
“Skating is now in the Olympics, there is a regional sporting plan. It would be good to have Ulladulla as one of the places on the map for regional sporting events.”
Council's recommendation is to note its limited useful life, limit repairs to what the general manager deems appropriate to address high risk, and use the current $200,000 allocated to engage a consultant to prepare a concept and detail design for the construction of a replacement facility of the Ulladulla Skate Park.
The audit found issues included ground water seeping through the bowl has displaced transition slabs, worn concrete surfaces with cracking and chipping and coping deterioration throughout the entire skate park.
Despite its popularity, the Ulladulla Skate Park is suited to intermediate and advanced users. Cr Findley said there was enough room to build a new skate park that would cater to all users.
“The skate park is set back a lot from the road, there is a lot of space in that direction and space to the west,” she said.
“Then can we get some seating in here, and some shade structure. There’s a lot of parents that come with the younger crew and they’ve got one seat that’s always in the blazing sun here.”
