Lake Conjola Bowling Club, Mollymook Beach Bowling and Recreation Club, Milton-Ulladulla Bowling Club, Mollymook Golf Club and Milton Ulladulla ExServos Club joined forces with Shoalhaven City Council to host Rock Out for the Drought, aiming to raise much-needed funds to support Shoalhaven farmers dealing with rising costs and expenses they face during drought.
About 200 people, dressed in their best farming attire, were kept entertained throughout the night by The Swaggers, Mojo Electric and Tim Thomson, while food “fit for a farmer” was served at various food trucks on the Civic Centre’s lawns.
Milton Ulladulla ExServos Marketing Manager Rob Lutton praised the wider community for their support and donations to the event.
“Obviously it was great we could do the event and there was great support from local businesses, the council, bands and those running food trucks,” Mr Lutton said.
“Thanks to everyone who came. There really was great support for the cause.”
Mr Lutton said representatives from the five clubs involved were engaging with Shoalhaven farmers to decide where and what should be dispersed locally.
Mr Lutton hoped the funds would alleviate some pressure on diary farmers, who have faced steep costs trying to feed their animals.
Some funds may be allocated to farmers out further west, depending on what was decided by the club’s representatives, he said.
“The reality is that even though we’ve had a bit of good rain, we look at what our farmers faced over the past four to five months, their rising feed costs, we’ve seen some big outlays by farmers,” Mr Lutton said.
Mr Lutton reminded the public there were everyday ways to reduce the burden on Shoalhaven farmers.
“Don’t buy the cheap milk, pay a reasonable price to support our dairy farmers,” he said.
All bar sales from the night, ticket booking fees and money raised at the auction were donated to the fund.
