Everyday Mobility in Ulladulla is much more than simply a retail store. While it offers a stack of useful products, its main aim is to brighten people’s lives by helping them maintain their independence and quality of life – by supplying mobility, healthcare, rehabilitation and daily living equipment with care and consideration.
Andrew and Josie Carter started the business nine years ago. “Andy and I fell in love with the area and felt it was the ideal place to raise our family,” Josie said. “We saw a need for this business in our local area and it’s satisfying to help people to maintain their independence, or help them recover from an illness or injury.”
Everyday Mobility has a team of four and is on the look out for a fifth member – ideally with mechanical or electrical experience. Julie and Sheree look after customers who come into the store, as well as the large number of inquiries each week. They draw on their backgrounds in falls prevention, nursing, pressure care, aged and disability care, as well as product knowledge to work alongside health professionals to get the best outcomes for clients.
Josie specialises in looking after local NDIS clients, and Andrew is busy on the road with deliveries, repairs and demonstrations of products. “Our work is really varied as we are not just a retail store,” Josie said. “Sure, the store has items like sock aids and elastic shoelaces through to walkers and wheelchairs, on to electric recline and lift chairs, scooters, home-style electric beds that function like a hospital bed, but look good in people’s homes. People are surprised by what they find in our store.”
Everyday Mobility also offers items which can be rented, carry out repairs and service the chairs and scooters sold at the store. “Andrew is often kept busy with the delivery and installation of equipment to ensure everything is right,” Josie said. “A big part of what we do is carry out free in-home demonstrations for scooters, chairs, and more. That can be really helpful for those in our community who cannot make it into town.”

The team thrives on doing their best to be helpful and along the way “we enjoy the bustle of life around town, seeing the faces we know on a daily basis, hearing wonderful stories from local veterans and others, all while raising a family in this beautiful location,” Josie said. That connection with community is a big part of what Everyday Mobility does. “Often when clients come to see us it is because either they, or someone they love, needs help,” Josie said. “Our clientele are lovely and so appreciative of any help or advice we give.
“We started this business wanting to make a positive difference in people’s lives: helping people remain in their home, maintain their independence, or recover from illness or injury – it is truly satisfying to see this happen time and again.”
The Everyday Mobility team prides itself on its depth of product knowledge, which has allowed the business strong professional relationships with Milton and Shoalhaven hospitals, Sarah Claydon Aged Care facility, nursing agencies like MUNA, IRT, HammondCare and Anglicare, the many occupational therapists, doctors, physiotherapists and nurses involved in DVA and NDIS cases. “We enjoy great ongoing support from the Sarah Claydon Village Auxiliary, and Jindelara, and we often visit with the local Stroke and Parkinson's groups for a chat and piece of cake,” Josie said.
