People who regularly drive the Princes Highway through Lake Tabourie will have noticed ongoing activity around the new shed adjacent to the Jack Nicholson Museum in the centre of the village.
Members of the railway club have been constructing the interior floor, walls and toilets of the new South Coast Railway History Museum and their clubhouse.
Construction of the museum building to “lock-up” stage was made possible by a Community Building Partnership Grant of $30,000 from the NSW Government and matching funding raised by the Model Railway Club.

South Coast MP Shelley Hancock said the project would provide “much-needed social infrastructure” in Lake Tabourie, complementing the existing Jack Nicholson Museum.
Initial construction of the museum was undertaken by local builders from Ulladulla, who provided materials, erection of the steel framed building and its cladding.
Six railway club members completed a Safework NSW General Construction Induction Training Course conducted by the Master Builder’s Association in Ulladulla, so that they were accredited to undertake the interior construction of the new building.
Together, with three other members already holding “white cards”, the nine-man MUMRC team has now completed the interior flooring and external walkways into the building to bring the project to lock-up stage.
Work is now focused on construction of the disabled toilets and their associated plumbing work, and wall framing for the museum section of the building.
The project also received a NSW Premier’s Department Grant of $8,300 which allowed the Model Railway Club to purchase and install the septic tanks for the toilets, and windows in the clubhouse meeting room.
Construction of the disabled toilets, museum and meeting room walls and ceiling was expected to be complete by Christmas.
Additional fundraising will be then be necessary to complete the fit-out of the clubhouse area and external items such as stormwater drainage and disabled parking.
