The Australian National University Library has released an exhibition which showcases the history of Tooth and Company, a NSW brewer, and the many hotels it owned and supplied including the Marlin Hotel, Ulladulla.
Pubs are a key part of Australia’s cultural identity and the various images date back to the Marlin Hotel’s opening after World War Two.
The hotel, on the corner of the Princes Highway and Wason Street, was opened in August 1948, becoming the first hotel to open in the state following the war.
The Milton Ulladulla Historical Society’s research says the hotel was built by Mr and Mrs A.L Pitman for 40,000 pounds. The entire hotel was decorated in the latest style of the time from Anthony Horderns and Sons Ltd in Sydney.
