On Monday, November 12, the coach left Ulladulla for Sydney Airport with 23 adventurers on board. After the flight to Launceston the group met their coach and driver and were taken to a local hotel.
The second day started with a trip to Beaconsfield where Brant Webb and Todd Russell were rescued 12 years ago. At Beauty Point they visited Platypus House to see the unique Tasmanian platypuses and echidnas.
At Seahorse World the visitors saw the aquarium and farm where thousands of seahorses are bred for the aquarium trade. The coach returned to Launceston via the picturesque Tamar River and Valley, stopping off at a winery on the way.
The next day the group travelled to Strahan. They stopped for lunch at a Cradle Mountain lodge and boarded the Cradle Mountain Explorer for a tour of Dove Lake, Waldheim Chalet and glacial lakes alongside deep rugged gorges.
On day four the group took the Gordon River Cruise, travelling to Hells Gate which is the entrance to Macquarie Harbour from the Great Southern Ocean.
From there they travelled up the Gordon River, stopping off at Sarah Island. The evening meal was an enjoyable buffet dinner at Strahan Village.
On Friday the group had an early departure for Hobart. Derwent Bridge is the half-way point where the coach stopped for lunch.
On the approach to Hobart the group had a couple to hours to take in MONA (the famous Museum of Old and New Art). From there they travelled into Hobart by ferry on the Derwent River to be met by their coach and taken to the hotel.
The next day commenced with breakfast at the hotel and a visit to the world famous Salamanca Market.
The group then boarded the coach to make their way to the Tasman Peninsula. A visit to the Port Arthur Historic Site included a harbour cruise and an introductory walking tour. They returned to Hobart via the geological features of the Blowhole, Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen.
The last full day in Tasmania commenced with a trip to the top of Mount Wellington and a tour of Hobart.
This was followed by The Peppermint Bay Cruise which departed from Sullivan’s Cove, travelled along the Derwent River and d’Entrecasteaux Channel, arriving at Peppermint Bay and the delightful village of Woodbridge.
The boat returned to Hobart in time for the group to enjoy their farewell dinner.
The final day started with a visit to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. In the afternoon the group took their flight to Sydney followed by a coach trip back to Ulladulla.
Members are reportedly looking forward to the Probus 2019 Major Tour.
Probus is all about friendship, fellowship and fun in retirement. Visitors are welcome at the club’s monthly meetings at the Milton Ulladulla ExServos Club on the second Friday of the month starting at 9.45am.
