The swans were swanning and the ducklings dancing on Swan Lake, Cudmirrah, as a small crew arrived for the long run through the bush, on the beach and around the town of Berrara on Sunday morning. It was a perfect setting for runners and walkers alike. We were all trying to get in some distance for the upcoming Christmas run, and while 14km seemed more than enough, a couple went on to complete the full round distance of 18.5km. As if that’s not long enough, Tilly and Craig just kept on going to reach the exact 21.1km distance of a half marathon. As Forrest Gump says, “I just felt like running”…why? Why not? John met up with us on his bike and a coffee and chat as always, well deserved at the Cuddy Café.

A reminder to all of December 16, the annual Christmas run. The full distance from Milton is about 26km, with the sensible option of about 11km – the downhill bit. We often get a few cyclists along, so please feel free to join us whether you want to walk, run or ride – there will be someone to accompany you. Start thinking about logistics too. Walkers doing the full distance are starting from Milton about 4am, runners will start from 5am onwards. The aim is to be at the Pigeon House turn by 7am, for all to then bring the very scenic journey home to Termeil Service Station. From there we will car pool to Burrill Lake Lions Park for the annual breakfast and presentation. More details next week.
A quick mention to our cyclists who meet at Heritage bakery, Milton at 7am on Saturdays. The photo this week shows a good crew out there, conveniently displaying the 7am start of the Christmas run! We hope to see most, if not all, joining us on the 16th.
Rats in the Field: Nicole Rattenbury competed in “L’Etape Australia by le Tour de France”, held in Jindabyne and surrounds. She completed the 170km cycling race in 8:02:51, with 3000m of elevation! A mammoth effort once again for our long distance member! A little bit shorter distance and closer to home, Cheryl Bellet ran at the Batemans Bay parkrun on Saturday with her son, Dillon.
Next Sunday’s Run, December 9: Please meet at 6.30am at Porters Creek Rd, Yatte Yattah, for a run to the dam. Follow the Princes Highway aprox 14km north of Ulladulla, turn left, then right for car parking. We will car pool from there. We believe there is water flowing, which will be wonderful to see!
