From Mullala the guests were site manager Vicki Turay and Cassandra Breed. Vicki said ‘we will now be referred to as Yumaro just to provide a less confusing communication to the community about who we are and so that people also realise that Ulladulla is part of a strong local organisations with many disability services that extends to Moruya”.
They currently have 33 people with a disability employed in Ulladulla working in different enterprises. It aims to be the first-place people think of when either needing plants, secure document shredding and cardboard recycling.
Yumaro offers the community several services, including lawn mowing, security shredding, nursery, recycling, sewing – Bunnings cloths and sandbagging. Their shredding service has the capacity to shred 100 sheets of paper at a time.
Locally Yumaro also recycle soft clear-filmed plastics, which includes bubble wrap. If the plastic is dropped off at the depot in Milton you can leave it free of charge, otherwise an annual collection fee is incorporated within the cardboard collection service.
They rely on the local community to support all our business services so they can continue to provide meaningful employment to the growing number of individuals needing a supported work environment.
Cassandra is horticulturist and manages the nursery. The nursery is located at 157 Warden Street, near the Leisure Centre, and the recycling address is 9c Wilfords Lane Milton, next to the Milton Co-Op.
The third speaker was Monica Mudge who spoke on the Take 3 for the Sea campaign which started with teaching her children the moral of take back something that doesn’t belong from either the beach or bush.
The idea of Take 3 is if you take 3 items from the beach/bush, that removes rubbish from the environment. The Shoalhaven City Council is an official partner of Take 3 for the Sea, Monica stated that it is a positive campaign in protecting the environment and is able to give kids a propose in the community, change the attitude towards environment and lifestyle in the community.
Jade Mudge, Monica’s daughter, was the final speaker. Jade was awarded NSW Children’s Week ‘Young Environmentalist of the Year’. Jade is passionate about the environment and started a business called Young Eco which is making recycles materials including lace to create produce bags.
Jade has organised a plastic free fete at Ulladulla High School, though Jade admitted it is quite a challenge to educate fellow students on the reuse of bags and a plastic free environment.
