PRESENTATION DAY: The year of serious bowling has ended with the usual NORTH versus SOUTH bash followed by the Presentation luncheon. As usual the captains of the North & the South sides, this year Ivan Traves & Barry Brandley revved up their bowlers with words of encouragement, cautions & even threats to inspire their teams. As mostly happens the South side won the event again this year, score 138/123, despite Ivan's 23/13 win over your Scribe's team.
Presentations were well received; especially nice to see Dot Pannowitz present the Barry Pannowitz memorial Veterans Pairs trophy & stalwart of the club Ron Henry present the Minor Pairs trophy. Major events champions for 2018 are: Mixed Fours: Ron Wall, Andrew Jarvis, Kerrie Jarvis, Mar Allen; Mixed Triples: Sid Brand, Ray Flinn & Judy Henderson; Mixed Pairs: Al Wynter & Di Hill. Men's Fours: Al Wynter (S), Darcy Nelson, Dave Clark, Mike Keegan; Triples: Ron Wall, Dave Clark, Dave Harrison; Pairs: Ron Wall & Dave Munt & the club champion for 2018 is Dave Henry.
Dave's ability to meterorically become our champ was due in part to our coaches & of course his ability as well as being in the "right place at the right time" as the saying goes. Therefore he shared the Al Bambury Memorial coaches award along with talented newer lady bowler, Wendy Lynn.
SOCIAL: Monday's monthly Open Triples had visitors from L.Conjola, Malua Bay, Cabramatta & Milton/Ulladulla so competition was fierce. Overall winners on the day were 1st locals Al Wynter, Andrew Jarvis Ray Flinn with 3 wins +24; 2nd locals again with 3 wins, +12 & 3rd M/U visitors Mick Durez, Dave Munt & John Reggerio with 2 wins & a draw +10. No Open Triples 7th January. Wednesday Triples, the lucky rink $20 vouchers went to Lefty, Scoop & Pop. Friday Open Pairs had Dave Clark & Jon Venn take out the $120 prize with 13 on the five random rinks; the $80 jackpot was not won; the KENO voucher was claimed by Lefty & Krusty.

The long awaited final of the Alf Green H’cap singles was held on Sunday afternoon in conditions that were not terribly conducive to good draw bowling, but despite the blustery southerly that blew in gusts across the green both Dave Munt and Mike Frame played some very very good bowls.
The game ebbed and flowed through the first 15 ends as David tried desperately to claw back the handicap that the selectors had so wisely given him. Mike resisted the challenge and held a narrow lead as the 100 mark was reached, but slowly and surely Dave began turning 4’s & 5’s into 7’s & 8’s and gradually overhauled his opposition. The perfect length that Mike had found all through the competition suddenly deserted him and with that, Dave pulled away to take a handy lead going into the 130’s. But Mike wasn’t finished yet, and with a very good 9 pointer late in the game, he certainly put the question to Dave.
But it wasn’t to be, with David holding his nerve and going on to take the title in a very entertaining game of bowls in trying conditions. Both bowlers showed great skill in overcoming the challenge presented to them, it was certainly a game worthy of a final.
So we are getting to the end of the year which means the “Beer,Bowls & Banquet” day is almost upon us - it just happens to be this Saturday, so for those of us who have got their names in, I will see you on the day. Don’t forget be there at 9.30 for a 10.00 o’clock start.
