The funding will provide equipment and capital works which support the vital activities of volunteers, the safety of beachgoers and the viability of the Mollymook clubhouse.
If Labor assumes control of the government the club will receive $189,000 to purchase a rescue craft, including a new inflatable rescue boat (IRB), a new utility vehicle for rescue, patrols and towing equipment and funds to upgrade the clubhouse, Mrs Phillips said.
Labor supported the local surf lifesavers and the critical role they play in keeping beaches safer, she said.
“Our local surf lifesaving clubs are community assets and provide much loved and iconic venues for people to meet, learn and celebrate. These facilities need a bit of an upgrade to continue to remain fit for purpose,” Mrs Phillips said.
“A failure at sea of an IRB motor or rescue craft could put lives at risk, putting off the maintenance of the clubhouse with harsh coastal conditions for a year too long, is a false economy. This is a smart investment that demonstrates my commitment to our community.”
Funding is made possible through financial decisions such as the the ‘Their Fair Share’ package, which will close tax loopholes exploited by multinational companies and improve the budget bottom line by $5.4 billion over the decade.
