Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) pilot Harry Hicks spotted two 1.5-metre white sharks about 8.15am, near the rocks at South Mollymook.
It was the first time swimmers have been asked to leave this summer, since the state government’s shark management strategy, which includes a trial of drones, was implemented at Mollymook.
North Mollymook was not affected by the warning. The southern end is open.
The trial will remain at Mollymook until the end of the school holidays.
