The NSW Government has granted Shoalhaven City Council $500,000 in funding to assist in the construction of new cycleways, bike racks and kerb ramps across the South Coast, to improve connectivity, safety and accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians alike.

Shared user pathways will be constructed and improved at St Georges Basin, Ulladulla and Swanhaven. 

At St Georges Basin, stage one of a shared path will be constructed from Nulla Place to the Wool Lane, as part of a broader plan to improve connectivity through to Sanctuary Point.

At Ulladulla, stage two of a shared path will be constructed along Deering Street, completing connectivity with Ulladulla Lighthouse, and at Swanhaven, advanced design works are underway for a shared path bridge along The Springs Road connecting Swanhaven and Cudmirrah.

Bike racks will be installed at Wowly Creek beach access, Plantation Point Parade Vincentia and Centre Street Callala Beach. 

Kerb ramps will also be constructed at Nowra, Huskisson and at the intersection of South Street and The Princes Highway, Ulladulla. 

South Coast MP Shelley Hancock said each project was important, delivering improvements for not only cyclists but pedestrians and those with mobility issues and prams.

“I’m particularly thrilled to have secured funding to continue the Deering Street shared user path,” she said. 

“The new path will improve connectivity and offer users a safe alternative to existing arrangements through better segregation from other traffic all the way from the town centre to Warden Head Lighthouse.

“Once both projects are complete the lighthouse will certainly be an easily accessed, major attraction iconic to the Southern Shoalhaven.” 

Mrs Hancock said cycling was an important part of the Shoalhaven’s local transport strategy, as well as a great way to reduce congestion and keep active.

“The most practical way to encourage community participation is to have quality supporting infrastructure that includes dedicated paths, ramps and bike racks,” she said.
