Melinda Schneider, who has released 10 solo albums and one collaboration since 2000, two of them gold, will play her Great Women of Country Show at Milton Theatre from 8pm to 10pm on Saturday, February 23.
Six Golden Guitars adorn her mantelpiece, with Schneider having won Female Vocalist Of The Year and APRA Song Of The Year.
To celebrate the 2014 release of Schneider and Beccy Cole’s collaborative album, Great Women Of Country and the songs that made them, in 2015 Beccy and Melinda presented some special concert performances delivering the new album live in full.
Due to the recent release of Cole’s new solo project and book, her schedule is full. So, Schneider is continuing on to expose the album to audiences around the country who have not yet been lucky enough to see it performed in concert.
Schneider returns for her third show at Milton Theatre, following a solo show and a Doris Day tribute. The album features 22 classic country tunes and the accomplished performer said she will expect everyone in the crowd to “sing along” at the top of their lungs.
”It’s a massive amount of songs, so we do the show in halves,” Schneider told the Times.
“I sing all the songs Beccy recorded solo on the album, and all the duets, myself. It’s good fun, the songs are great, you can’t go wrong with these songs. Everyone knows the lyrics, everyone sings along.”
Schneider said it was a great time to doing a show about iconic women with issues such as gender equality at the forefront of public discussion.
“It’s a great show to be doing because a lot of these women, who wrote these songs, were real trailblazers, [and] ahead of their time. People like Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, and Loretta Lynn who recorded songs about the pill.
“It’s a real privilege to be able to pay homage to some of the amazing singers I admire.”
Schneider will perform renditions of hits by Tammy Wynette, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris and Gram Parson, Dolly Parton’s and many more.
