A new projector and projector screen, additional chairs, tables and children’s equipment for events and functions, new book holders, Perspex displays and more community tables to match the new furniture already in place will soon be added.
A $50,000 renovation of Milton Library was completed in December.
The further refurbishment will be completed as part of a NSW Government grant of $13,750.
Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock visited the library this morning, Tuesday, February 19, to tell the Friends of Milton Library the good news.
“However, it was at the library’s opening the volunteers let me know there were still some essential items needed to complete the refurbishment and allow them to fully take advantage of the newly upgraded space.
“This funding boost will ensure that the library is the toast of the town and able to keep expanding the services and programs on offer to the local community.”
Friends of Milton Library president, Alison Pakes, said the new space has been well-received.
“The community response to the refurbishment of the Milton Library has been overwhelming. We have had so much positive feedback,” she said.
“Everyone loves the new light and airy space, from the comfortable new armchairs, to the new tables and chairs and most of all the new children’s area and furnishings.
“Our vision has always included Milton Library being used by community groups and for community events. Unfortunately, our previous funding was not quite enough to complete this vision so we are absolutely thrilled that Shelley has been able secure funds to complete this project. ”
Mrs Hancock said the Milton Library is here to stay.
“I thank all of the Friends of Milton Library, and in particular Alison Pakes and Sara Eastway, for their commitment to enhancing and running this vital, community library. It is their tireless efforts that keep it going from strength-to-strength – nobody would dream of closing it now,” she said.
