A QUICKER than a run a ball century by Ulladulla United junior Matthew Gilkes wasn't enough for his UNSW side to claim victory in their one-day qualifying final against Gordon on Sunday.

Played at Chatswood Oval, UNSW won the toss and elected to bat first in the NSW Premier Cricket first grade limited-overs cup match.
Opener Gilkes managed 109 from 103 balls - an innings which included 12 boundaries and two sixes, which helped his Bumble Bees post 237 from their 49 overs.
This ton marks the third time the former Ulladulla High School student has reached triple figures this season, as well as two other half centuries - leaving him with 725 at an average of 45.3 in all competitions this season for UNSW.
In reply, half centuries from Gordon's Glenn Winsor (60) and Cameron Eccles (51) proved to be the difference, as they reached the target (9/238) with seven balls to spare.
Gordon will now play Sydney University in one semi-final, with Bansktown and Sydney locking horns in the other.
Sydney qualified for the final four by edging out another United product Tom Engelbrecht and his St George side 5/211 to 208 - despite eight runs and 1/41 from the former Ulladulla talent.
