Milton Ulladulla Family History Society's members have researched and written the new book Timber Workers of Milton Ulladulla.
The local historians are pleased to announce the book has been completed and printed, and is ready to launch at the Dunn Lewis Centre, Ulladulla, at 2pm on Tuesday, March 5.
The timber industry in this area was a main source of income for many families, Milton Ulladulla Family History Society member Julie Gullan said.
"There are some wonderful stories along with some sad ones too."
The book highlights the workers and the transport involved in carting and shipping of the timber.
The book will tell the stories of workers, mill owners, contractors and cutters from Conjola in the north to Bawley Point, Kioloa and Termeil in the south, and west to Brooman, Flatrock, and Shallow Crossing.
Convener Marg Magnusson, whose grandfather, father, brother and uncles were all involved in timber milling throughout the Shoalhaven, previously told the Times she was inspired to write after submitting an excerpt about her uncle to a Far South Coast book about timber workers who died on the job.
At the launch Ms Magnusson will give an account of the research undertaken and the publishing process.
A special guest speaker will also be at the event, Ms Gullan said.
The book launch will be followed by light refreshments.
Books that are purchased on the day can also be signed. Ms Gullan invited residents and contributors to join the launch.
"We welcome members, people who have provided us information on their families as well as anyone who is interested in hearing about this book."
The Milton Ulladulla Family History Society is open to the public on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am to 2pm, and Saturdays from 9.30am to 1.30pm.
