Bishop Brian presided at Mass followed by morning tea and a listening session as part of the 2020 Plenary Council Process. The Milton Parish Plenary Council Animation Team have held sessions with parishioners and interested parties since August. This process will continue until Ash Wednesday, on March 6 2019.
A Plenary Council is the highest formal gathering of local churches in a country, and is a dialogue about the future of the Catholic Church in Australia, Milton Ulladulla Catholic Church publicity liaison Vivienne Hodge said.
"This Council has been formed to bring the Catholic Church in Australia into the 21st Century, by asking the question, “What do you think God is asking of us at this time?”
All people are invited to the listening and speaking sessions in an open and inclusive environment about the future of the church in Australia, she said.
"Everyone’s experience of faith and church is unique. It is important that the church hears responses from as many people as possible," she said.
"We hope that by this time, every parish, school and agency, will have taken the opportunity to respond to the invitation of Bishop Brian, to give feedback from their listening and dialogue sessions."
The last time a Plenary Council was held in Australia, was in 1937.
