The marine rescue unit has increased in female membership recently with women playing a significant role in the organisation, deputy unit commander Gabrielle Boermans said.
Ms Boermans and Lyn Zerbes are members of the executive while Lesley Kelly is the unit's first female skipper.
Outside of leadership positions many women perform various roles such as radio operations, fundraising, catering, general maintenance of the centre and gear and ordering supplies.
Like their male counterparts, women can learn and improve their navigation, first-aid, helm )boat driving), rope tying and weather reading skills. They've also have been accepted because the unit is like a "family".
"Women just bring a different perspective to an organisation, " Ms Boermans said.
"They bring a practical, sensible, commentary to a situation."
